Kenneth Hutchison

(Balfron Curling Club)

I have been married for twenty-six years, to Ann.  I have two children, Karin aged 23 and Kevin aged 21.  We live in Bearsden and my wife is a nursery nurse.

I served my apprenticeship as a diesel engineer, I then entered the insurance industry, where I met my wife. I started a motorcycle business with my brother and sister in law in 1977 and now we have three shops in Glasgow, Paisley and Ayr.

I have been involved in motor-cycle sports (on and off road) since I was 16 years old.  I continue to do trials riding with my son and my wife and daughter come along to help with the organisation of each event.

With the exception of my son we all curl at Forest Hills and Stirling, taking part in weekends away with our mother club Forest Hills Trossachs Curling Club.

We also play league games with Balfron Curling Club and play in all our clubs Province games.

Several years ago I played against Canada when they toured Scotland, our rink played in their kilts.  We looked good!  Pity about the curling.

I also keep fit at our local gym and I use my mountain bike going round Mugdoch Country Park.  I enjoy gardening and driving my classic car in the summer.

Archie McFarlane (East Tour Treasurer)

(Erskine Curling Club)

He retired as a Chartered Accountant in April 1997, most of his business life having been spent in a professional office as a Partner.

He has been curling for approximately 25 years during which he has been a member of three clubs in which he has been involved in general committee work, including being President of each. His "Mother" club is Erskine playing mainly at Greenacres Curling Rink but he also plays at Hamilton Ice Rink with East Kilbride and Haremyres. He has also been President of Renfrewshire XIIth Province. While he was Vice-President he captained a curling Goodwill Tour by the Province to the Ottawa Valley in November 1988. Regular home-and-away tours of this nature have created a wonderful friendship between the two areas. He has recently completed a five-year term of office on the Council of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club for four years of which he was Finance Convener and is now Secretary of Area 3.

He is a very keen golfer, playing on average three times per week throughout the year. He was Captain of Pollok Golf Club in 1995/96 and has now graduated to the Presidency of its Ex-Captains' Society this year. He takes a great interest in many other sports.

He lives with his wife, Janey, in the south side of Glasgow. They have an unmarried son, Graeme, and a married daughter, Kirsty. Graeme was a Scottish Schools champion in 1983.
