Charles Jackson (East Tour Vice-Captain)

(Alma Curling Club)

Charles is age 52 and lives in Lenzie, 8 miles North East of Glasgow. He is married to Judith, and they have just celebrated their first 25 years of marriage. They have two children, Karen (23) and Andrew (20).

Charles was educated at Lenzie Academy and Kelvinside Academy (Glasgow), and Edinburgh University.

He is a solicitor and is a partner at Miller Beckett and Jackson, Solicitors, Glasgow, who have offices in Glasgow (city centre), Hamilton and Lenzie. It is a multi-discipline practice, predominantly private client based. Karen and Andrew are both following Charles in the law.

He is a member of five curling clubs - Alma (his mother club celebrating its 25th anniversary), Cadder (instituted 1862), Nondescripts, Gadloch and Kelvinside Accies.

He is secretary of Alma, and is a past president of Alma and Dumbartonshire Province.

Judith is also a curler. Her late father, David Duncan, was past president of RCCC (1975/76) and toured Canada in 1965. Her mother, Janette Duncan, also toured Canada in 1967.

His other interests include golf and skiing and he is a keen rugby
supporter.

Although this will be his first visit to Canada, he played against the
Canadian tourists to Scotland in 1988 and 1998.

Bill Duncan

(Bank of Scotland Curling Club)

Born 1947 in Perth and educated at Caledonian Road Primary School 1952-59 and Perth Academy 1959-63.

Joined British Linen Bank in June 1963 and qualified MCIBS in 1969, before the take over by Bank of Scotland in 1971. Involved in Branch and Business Banking, in Managerial and Regional Director roles until two years ago when he moved from the face to face business into the Business Banking Customer Services area, and is presently Director in charge of Lending Support since the recent merger with Halifax Building Society to form HBOS.

Married to Avril and living in Perth, with a daughter, Debbie, 27, living in Dundee and a son, Barry, 24, presently living in Sydney, Australia.

Bill is a Director of Perth Ice Rink (1988) Ltd and Treasurer of Perth Masters Bonspiel which attracts most of top European Curling Rinks to the annual competition held during the first week in January each year. He has attended 3 World Championships in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Hamilton, a Brier in Winnipeg, and played in the World Rotary Curling Championships at Niagara Falls.

Bill played semi - professional soccer, and only started curling in his thirties, but has played in 7 RCCC Rinks Championship Finals with 2 silver medals, 3 Perth Open Finals with 1 win and 2 runners-ups, and has a number of Perth Masters appearances, and continues to play in the Perth Super League - First Division.  He also admits to now having played last year in his first Scottish Seniors Finals.

Martin Priestley

(Perth Medical Curling Club)

Trained at St. Andrew’s University.  Family Doctor in Perth 30 years.  Lived in Bridge of Earn 26 years.  Married to Aileen 32 years, also Family Doctor and presently Vice President Area 8 RCCC.  3 grown up children all who live and work in Edinburgh. 

Member of Kilgraston and Moncreiffe Curling Club also Perthshire Medical Curling Club. Have skipped a rink in Super league division 2 or 3 the last 10 years Level 1 as rink coach.

Hobbies – golf and hill walking in the summer.  Curling and skiing in the winter.

Robert W. Smith

(Inverkeithing Curling Club)

Bob was born in Edinburgh where he was educated at The Royal High School and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He has lived  for over 30 years in Fife practising Accountancy in Inverkeithing, a Royal Burgh immediately north of the Forth Bridges.   He now specialises in Personal Taxation and acts as a Consultant Accountant to small, growing businesses. 

Bob has curled for 21 years and played against several touring teams, including the 1998 Canadians. He has served on club committees, for a lengthy time as Match Secretary and is now Vice President of  the Curling Club, while acting as a committee member of  West Fife Province.

His wife Liz is also a keen Curler as is their son Robert junior. Their grown up daughter regularly tests Bob’s interest in DIY and gardening. Bob is an avid high handicapper who enjoys golf when socialising allows.
