Ainslie Smith (West Tour Captain)

(Pitlessie Curling Club)

Farms beef sheep and cereals with a small acreage  of carrots being sold to a supplier to the major supermarkets. Ainslie is the  seventh generation to farm in the same parish in the Howe of Fife.He is also  involved in contract farming for a neighbouring farm.

Married to Aileen for 29 years, they have 3  sons, one vet, one at home on the farm, and one student of leisure and  recreation management. Aileen works as a practice nurse at a local  surgery.

He has been a member of Pitlessie club for 35  years, being their President twice, one of the times being during the 150th celebrations. Ainslie is continuing the tradition of many generations of Smiths  curling, and has entered and failed in the Scottish Championships. If it does not give too many clues to his age he played in the junior finals in Haymarket ice rink.He was honoured to be RCCC President 2000-2001

When the ice melts the other love of his sporting  life is scuba diving being a founder member of Cupar sub-aqua club, or now  watching his family play rugby.

Alan C. Stanfield (West Tour Vice - Captain)

(Nairn Curling Club)

Alan has lived in the North of Scotland since 1982, after which he was introduced to the game of curling and has been hooked ever since. He and his wife, Margaret, have 3 children, Sarah, Neil and Karen with the elder two now away from home and studying at University.

He works as a General Practitioner in Nairn but was fortunate to spend 6 months on sabbatical leave from his Practice in 1991, as a Family Physician in The Pas, Manitoba. Has visited Canada on vacation as well, with the highlights being to raft down the Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers in the Yukon/Northern B.C., to see polar bears in their natural habitat near Churchill and to visit the Calgary Stampede. One of his weaknesses is to support the Toronto Blue Jays!

A Past President of his club, he is currently President of Moray Province but when not involved with curling either by playing or umpiring, he enjoys the garden and supporting his children’s interests in music and swimming.

Ken Scott

(Blairgowrie Curling Club)

Born and bred in Perthshire, Ken lives in Dunkeld, mid-way between Perth and Pitlochry ice rinks. Ken is a qualified umpire and a qualified instructor since 1981, teaching beginners and improvers at Perth and Atholl.

Married to Elizabeth for 29 years, they enjoy the game of curling so much they are members (and both Past Presidents) of Blairgowrie C.C (founded in 1783), Dunkeld C.C. and a club in Switzerland – Wengen Jungfrau C.C. where they play mainly open-air. Ken was particularly delighted to be asked to captain the Royal Club Tour to Switzerland in 1998.

Before becoming President of the R.C.C.C. in 1998, Ken was involved in Development and Coaching, bringing a  professionalism into the administration of the game and the coaching structure.

When time permits, Ken runs a surveying and valuation office for three local authorities in central Scotland. As well as curling, some dreadful golf is played in summer and he enjoys tasting different wines and whiskies. Ken’s latest interest is scuba-diving (in warm water).

John S.I. Flett

(Aberdeen & District Rotary Curling Club)

Ian lives in Aberdeen on the North East coast, which has a population of approx. 150,000.  He is a retired Insurance Broking Executive with Marsh & MacLennan.  He is a widower and has two daughters and two grandchildren.

He is a Council Member of the R.C.C.C. and although has only been curling for nine years, has curled in Holland, Switzerland and Canada.  He is the Rotary Sports Officer for the North of Scotland, and has to organise curling, golf, bowling and fishing competitions for 80 Rotary Clubs. He also bowls (occasionally), and golfs, which is now his second sport.
