West Tour Team 6

Ron Caithness (West Tour Treasurer)

(Edzell Curling Club)

Recently retired from the position of Head of Branch Banking with the Bank of Scotland where he was employed for 35 years.

Married to Kate with 2 boys Alastair and Stuart (also 2 blue roan cocker spaniels!)

Introduced to curling from an early age when snow removal from the outdoor pond was a major undertaking!!

Participated in competitive curling for over 20 years and still enjoys the occasional tussle with today's 'heavy weights' of Scottish curling.

Edzell Curling Club has the privilege of being the holders of the 'Grand Match ' trophy which was last played for on outdoor ice in 1979. Some 600 rinks participate but 'Jack Frost' has failed to deliver sufficient ice to allow the competition to return!!

Ron's wife is a representative for Scotland on the World Curling Federation and has been heavily involved in taking wheelchair curling forward.

Enjoys a hectic retirement and loves the outdoor pursuits of Hill-walking, Salmon fishing, Golf (handicap 8) and gardening.

Ian Dykes

(Greenlaw Curling Club)

Although born in Hamilton, I regard myself as a true Borderer having lived and farmed near Greenlaw for over 40 years. I have always preferred the stock side of farming and for some years had Aberdeen Angus cattle and Texel sheep.

An interest in horses passed down the line to my 3 daughters (my son preferred his bike!). I do still ride and have horses around.

Curling is my main sport and I curl with Greenlaw Curling Club at our local ice rink at Kelso. I also take a keen interest in rugby and enjoy watching sport of any sort on TV.

I am fortunate to have many interests- I enjoy travelling and reading, especially history. I have no musical talent but I enjoy theatre going, après-eating out and wine tasting plus I do enjoy a wee dram now and then!

This was written for me by the current Mrs. Dykes who has had to put up with me for 35 years!

Colin Moreland

(Kilgraston and Moncrieffe Curling Club)

Married to Margaret for some 36 years. I have two daughters and three grand-daughters.  Home is a large Victorian house in the City of Perth, 100 yards from the ice rink, which we have renovated and converted and operate as a Guest House.

I am a Plumber to trade but most of my working life was spent as a College Lecturer and latterly as a College Departmental Head from which I took early retirement a few years ago. I am currently a part-time Education Advisor.

I have been curling for almost 25 years and still manage to compete in the super league.  I am a past president of Kilgraston and Moncreiffe Curling Club.  Other hobbies include golf, D.I.Y. and a large garden.

Bert Duncan

(Greenlaw Curling Club)

Born in Fife and brought up in Perthshire, Bert, as  he is universally known, has been in horticulture all his working life.  For the past 24 years, he has run a nursery near Kelso specialising in growing bedding  and pot plants.

He is married to Sophia and they have two grown up children.

Because of the nature of his business, there is  little time for other pursuits during the growing season hence his passion for  curling in which he indulges regularly during the winter months at Borders Ice  Rink where he is currently the President.

His other interests are cycling and DIY and he is a  church elder.
